What Do Board Members do?

A school board, working with its community, has many leadership responsibilities and an unlimited amount of decisions to make on a wide range of issues.

Some of the Leadership Responsibilities include:

  • To envision the district’s education future and set goals and define strategies to guide the district toward that vision.
  • To hire a superintendent who will effectively implement the board’s policies and manage the district to accomplish its goals.
  • To monitor and assess the district’s performance; keep the public informed and engaged.
  • To advocate for students and public schools within the community, state, and national levels.
  • To attend a Board of Education meeting at least once a month or more if the situation arises.

Interested persons must submit a letter expressing why they are interested in serving on the board and what their qualifications are. The letter of interest is required; a resume is preferred.

The letter must be received in the District Administration Office (23101 Stadium Drive) no later than 4 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022. The letter should also include contact information including phone number and email address.

Following a review of the submitted materials, the Board of Education will schedule interviews with selected candidates (submission of a letter of interest does not guarantee an interview).  Questions concerning the role of the Board of Education and the responsibilities of a board member should be directed to Ms. Angela Hughes, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools, at 586-435-1602.
